Our Privacy Philosophy
At
Private Access, Inc., our core belief is that individuals should have more
control over who can see and use information about themselves. When
it comes to confidential personal information, we think that people
should have an easy way to maintain the privacy they desire, while
granting access to those whom they choose. We’re building
a system to make this possible.
The
founder of our company, Robert Shelton,
serves as chairman of a national patient advocacy group for a rare
genetic condition. Through this work, we have found that many
people have conflicting desires concerning privacy. On the one
hand, they want certain parts of their health information to be kept
private. And at the same time, they want the right people - for
example, a trusted family member or friend, their personal doctors,
and researchers who could use the information to possible accelerate
medical breakthroughs - to have access to it.
It
was out of an appreciation for this tension - the intense and
justifiable wish for both privacy and access - that Private Access, Inc.,
was born. And as our country moves in the direction of a
nationwide electronic medical records system and uses new
technologies that make it easier than ever before for widespread
sharing of information “at Internet speed”, the need is
perhaps greater than ever for tools that empower individuals to
decide who they wish to see their information.
Private
Access, Inc. offers users easy-to-use tools that enable each person to set
clear and detailed privacy instructions, which we call “Privacy
Preferences,” such as who can see your personal information,
who can contact you, and for what purpose.
Privacy
Statement Summary
Our
Privacy Statement explains how Private Access, Inc. protects and handles
the personal information of individual users. The bottom
line is that you, as an individual user, maintain control of the
information you supply to us:
- You decide how much information you want to provide,
- You decide whether to allow others to search for and view your personal information, and
- You decide who can contact you, and for what purposes.
You
can change any of these decisions at any time. Private Access, Inc.'s
patient-centric platform, also called PrivateAccess™ allows you to set
Privacy Preferences that will exert more control over both the
privacy of your information and who has access to it.
Based upon the Privacy Preferences you create at PrivateAccess™,
our initial application makes it easier for you to find out about
important research studies that may be of interest to you.
Additional privacy-enabled services that utilize one or more of the
features of PrivateAccess™ are planned in the future to expand
your control over the privacy of your information and who has access
to it.
Please
read our complete Privacy Statement for
full information about our privacy practices. Throughout the Privacy Statement, the terms “Private Access, Inc.” and “Private Access” - with a space between the two words - refer to the company and are used interchangeably. “PrivateAccess™” - without a space between the two words - and “PrivateAccess.com™” refer to the company’s core, web-based privacy platform and service and are also used interchangeably.
